Get to know the woman behind Screw Perfection.  On a transformation journey and inspiring others to heal their way to health from the inside out, she is experienced in working with kids and families, is a published children’s author, and is raising a daughter of her own.

Julie Kelly

BA, Wife & Mom

Julie Kelly is a work at home mom to an amazing six-year-old little girl. She started with a personal trainer in 2014 and lost 50 pounds but was not quite committed to the process, especially with nutrition  She got serious about her health and fitness journey in June of 2017 and has been on a transformational journey ever since. The journey has transformed Julie not only physically but also mentally, emotionally and spiritually.  In total she has lost 175 pounds!

Having been raised in an environment of chronic fad-diets where so much of a woman’s value was based on their weight and appearance; Julie grew up with feelings of shame about her body and has spent most of her adult life overweight and unhappy, and uncomfortable within her own skin. Her biggest motivation has been to ensure that her own daughter never grows up feeling the same way.

Julie has been on a mission to heal her way to health and to lead by example; showing her daughter first-hand what the female body is capable of and that she can accomplish anything she sets her mind to.  Julie recently competed in a natural fitness competition, a goal two years in the making.  She won first place in the Transformation category and 5th place in Novice Fitness.  She then went on to be featured in the Winter 2020 edition of Oxygen Magazine.

Julie is currently publishing her first illustrated children’s book titled ‘The Queen Bakes a Pie’ which is expected to be available this summer! ‘The Queen Bakes a Pie’ is a story about self-confidence, perseverance, and teamwork which follows a Princess and her Royal Family on a magical quest, a must-read for all children.

Julie decided to launch her business Screw Perfection, hoping to share what she has learnt along her journey to inspire and motivate others to achieve their goals and become the best version of themselves. She also hopes to help other women come together to raise a generation of girls that love their bodies.

Julie has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Winnipeg (Manitoba, CA) with a double major in Sociology and Justice & Law Enforcement. She also has 9 years of experience working with children, youth and families; both in the non-profit sector as a Certified Child & Youth Care Worker as well as in the role of Social Worker with the Government of Alberta.

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! I am so excited for you! I’m totally into Screwing Perfection.

I love seeing what Julie is up to every week! It’s so inspiring to see a confident and passionate woman living up to their own ideals and setting their own standards. My favourite part of your posts is the honesty and vulnerability that you show, it makes me feel like I don’t have to be so hard on myself when my life doesn’t follow the so-called plan. Thanks for showing us all how to be our own version of perfect!
