Julie Kelly

BA, Wife & Mom

Julie Kelly is a mom to two young girls; aged 9 and 2.  She started with a personal trainer in 2014 and lost 50 pounds but was not quite committed to the process, especially with nutrition  She got serious about her health and fitness journey in June of 2017 and has been on a transformational journey ever since. The journey has transformed Julie not only physically but also mentally, emotionally and spiritually.  In total she has lost 175 pounds!

Having been raised in an environment of chronic fad-diets where so much of a woman’s value was based on their weight and appearance; Julie grew up with feelings of shame about her body and has spent most of her adult life overweight and unhappy, and uncomfortable within her own skin. Her biggest motivation has been to ensure that her own daughters never grow up feeling the same way.

Julie has been on a mission to heal her way to health and to lead by example; showing her daughters first-hand what the female body is capable of and that they can accomplish anything they set  their minds to.  Julie recently competed in a natural fitness competition, a goal two years in the making.  She won first place in the Transformation category and 5th place in Novice Fitness.  She then went on to be featured in the Winter 2020 edition of Oxygen Magazine.

Julie then went on to publish her first illustrated children’s book titled ‘The Queen Bakes a Pie’ which is now available in the Gift Shop.  ‘The Queen Bakes a Pie’ is a story about self-confidence, perseverance, and teamwork which follows a Princess, her Royal Family and their miniature pet dragon on a magical quest.  ‘The Queen Bakes a Pie’ is Julie’s journey of inspiration and motivation designed for children.

Julie decided to launch her business Screw Perfection, hoping to share what she has learnt along her journey to inspire and motivate others to achieve their goals and become the best version of themselves. She also hopes to help other women come together to raise a generation of girls that love their bodies.

Julie has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Winnipeg (Manitoba, CA) with a double major in Sociology and Justice & Law Enforcement. She also has 9 years of experience working with children, youth and families; both in the non-profit sector as a Certified Child & Youth Care Worker as well as in the role of Social Worker with the Government of Alberta.
